Show+Tell: Equity & Justice in Early Childhood Development highlights innovation and entrepreneurship to achieve equity and justice across the continuum of early childhood development (ECD).

What topics are we looking to cover?

Within perinatal, we are looking to cover topics such as Black maternal health, infant mortality, and the role of doulas in birthing justice.

Within infant/toddler, we are looking to cover topics such as anti-racism in childcare, equitable compensation for providers, early intervention, more equitable quality assessments, and centering cultural traditions over eurocentric ones.

Within preschool, we are looking to cover topics such as anti-racism curriculum, ending suspensions, and celebrating linguistic differences.

We know that some of the topics will be cross-cutting, and touch multiple, or all, of the stages, such as equitable compensation, centering cultural traditions, and access to funding.

Why submit nominations?

We invite any and all to submit your nomination for expert speakers, innovative ventures, and case studies relevant to equity and justice in ECD. By submitting a nomination, you’ll contribute in a critical way. We’ll connect with each nomination, have a conversation to gauge their interests in participating and work with a panel of Promise team members, industry experts, and community members to select those who we will feature in this event.

How are we defining equity and justice?

Equity - The effort to provide different levels of support based on an individual’s or group’s needs in order to achieve fairness in outcomes. Working to achieve equity acknowledges unequal starting places and the need to correct the imbalance.

Justice - The process required to move us from an unfair, unequal, or inequitable state to one which is fair, equal, or equitable, depending on the specific content. Justice is a transformative practice that relies on the entire community to respond to past and current harm when it occurs in society. Through justice, we seek a proactive enforcement of policies, practices and attitudes that produce equitable access, opportunities, treatment and outcomes for all regardless of the various identities that one holds.
